The Voodoo Doughnut Van
In response to the recent economic downturn and high unemployment rates, Urban Opportunities initiated a partnership with a hip local business: Voodoo Doughnut. Urban Opportunities owns and operates the Voodoo Doughnut Van, which is at many events throughout the community and can be booked for parties and other activities. The van provides jobs for some of the youth that graduate from the Urban Opportunities curriculum and serves as a great community outreach project for both the program and the participating youth. In the summer of 2010, through a partnership with Portland Parks and Recreation, the van will be a vendor at the Movies In The Park series, with all proceeds going back into the program.

“Voodoo Doughnuts Confectionery legends like the Bacon Maple Bar and the Portland Cream just got a sweet set of wheels.
Urban Opportunities youth job placement program has teamed up with Voodoo Doughnuts to mobilize the cult favorite in a jolly pink van that will be rolling around town spreading the sugar-glazed gospel Thursdays through Sundays from 9am to 8pm. The non-profit partnership will employ youth from Urban Opportunities, providing jobs for up to 20 kids a year, with all proceeds benefiting the program.
As if you needed more reason to enjoy the sugary smut that Voodoo bakes up with love (and lust), temptation now has justification – these next 10 pounds are for the kids. Look out for the pink monstrosity at street fairs, community events, and your front yard throughout the summer and beyond.”
