The Marilyn Miller Educational Endowment Fund

The Marilyn Miller Educational Endowment Fund was established in honor of Ms. Miller’s 21 year commitment to the amelioration and eradication of poverty through her leadership at Portland Impact. Funded in 2003, the Educational Endowment Fund is intended to provide unique, educational opportunities for low income high school juniors and seniors attending Cleveland, Franklin and Marshall High Schools. Cash assistance (maximum of $500 per student) is available to those students who lack financial resources to take advantage of opportunities which they believe will expand their options for educational and career success. Such opportunities can include school sponsored/endorsed field trips, cultural exchanges, enrollment in advanced classes outside of the high school and verified community activities that will enhance a student’s educational experience. Requested funds can help cover the cost of transportation, tuition and fees, needed supplies and other related costs.

Four percent of the Marilyn Miller Endowment Fund will be distributed annually (calculation based on 4% of the average asset balance of the fund over the last four quarters, determined as of March 31 of each year for the upcoming fiscal year). Applications are reviewed quarterly beginning in November of each year by a committee comprised of the Family & Youth Services Director, Executive Director, a member of the Board and Marilyn Miller.

Applicants must be:

  • Junior or senior attending Cleveland, Franklin or Marshall High School
  • Recommended by a school teacher, administrator or counselor
  • In good academic standing
  • Show evidence of financial need for the funds requested
  • Complete an application form by one of three deadlines: October 31, January 31 or April 30 of each year

Applications must be submitted through the principals of each school, who then approve them and send them to the Endowment Committee for final decisions. Schools will be notified of grant decisions within three weeks following each deadline.
